Perineal tear or Episiotomy is an incision made in the tissues between the vaginal and the perineum (anus). It is usually done to speed up labour just before the baby's head emerged from the birth canal.

In Asia countries when the mother has a vaginal delivery, an episiotomy is usually done as Asian skin tends not to stretch as well as Caucasians.

Preventing Perineal Tear
