Six years ago, breastfeeding was a tough job for me as I have no help from anyone and milk supply was low.  It was disheartening that I only managed to feed my daughter 30ml of breast milk a day for only the first month of her life.  But now, with my boy who is 8 months now, he is happily drinking up bottles of breast milk with ample supply stored in the freezer for perhaps another baby.

My labour was a breeze with little Yong Loke coming out within half an hour but sadly with a tear.  I managed to feed him straight after the nurse has cleaned him up and again when he came into the ward after all the check-ups.  I also insisted that I feed him in the night even though that was a good time for rest.  However, upon reaching home I got really stressed out as he was starting to get really hungry and I did not have enough more for him to drink.  I had to let him drink milk formula so that he would not cry the whole time.

I told myself not to give up this time round and express my milk every 3hours even in the mid of the night.  Soon my milk came and it was ample for him to drink without any milk formula as supplement.  My supply was also good enough that my elder daughter could take a bottle every night and with more stores in the freezer.

I was also lucky that my mum who did my confinement cooked soup for me to drink everyday.  Some of the recipes for the soups can be obtained at here. I also have my hubby to thank as he helped me to massage every night to get rid of the blocked milk ducts and feeling of engorgement during the first few days.  It was very painful for me as I had many blocked milk ducts and without clearing them out, the milk supply would not have come so readily.

Having feed my son for 8months, I was lucky not to have suffered any major problems during breastfeeding except for an occasional blocked milk ducts and once, a bleeding nipple during to my little boy’s biting.

I guess I will probably feed him right up to 1 year old and maybe longer should my supply continues to be that good as the months go
