Here i like to share my own real experiences, many unexpected surprises and battles as i enter motherhood and how i started my own business Origins Jamu Massage
When i knew about my pregnancy in 2005, i had mixed feelings just like any other woman. I was overjoyed but there were also many thoughts running through my head, whether i can cope with labour pains, am i able to take care of my baby, can i succeed in breastfeeding , will my body go out of shape after birth and much more. I attended prenatal classes, read many books and also try to seek more information and experiences from mummies from forums and friends. This helps me to prepare myself mentally what to expect of things.
After giving birth in 2005, i followed books and doctor's advices on how to handle my newborn. During the early days of birth, I felt that the focus was suddenly shifted to the baby. The focus of a mother suddenly becomes secondary. My emotions were affected and sometimes i felt that i was not doing my role well as a mum. I had difficulty in breastfeeding, had always the fear of inadequate supply for my baby. My body was full of aches and my energy were drained. During my confinement period, i engaged a malay lady for postnatal massage. My purpose was to get back in shape especially my tummy. I was suprised that the seven days sessions actually helped cope with my physical body aches as well as my emotions better. I think the massage helps to unwind mentally and i actually felt more energetic and fresh after each session. My massage lady gave me many advices on breastfeeding and reassurances It was not just a session of pampering myself but i learnt much how to take good care of myself as a new mum and also my newborn.Getting back in shape was also easier and possible. I felt more confidence thereafter.
In 2009, i decided to have this blog- SgMummy to enhance the importance of postpartum care of woman. After going through two pregnancies, i seen for myself and believe that postpartum period is extremely important for a mother. Especially in Asia, confinement period is not to be taken lightly and there are many rules and practices. There are also posts in my blog that we can learn from other cultures confinement practices. I have included videos, confinement and lactation recipes as well. As special section call A Mother's Story is dedicated to all mummies, they are real experiences of labour, breastfeeding and confinement from mums. Through the insights of these valuable stories, i hope every mums-to-be or mummies can relate closely of what to expect from birth to postpartum. I have also included the various ways to cope with newborn and also a special section on Family.
SgMummy hopes to walk hand in hand with you as you embrace motherhood.
